GWOPA organized in cooperation with German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA), AÖW and the German Water Partnership a session on “Water & Jobs – No investment without qualified staff – Case studies” at the IFAT 2016 in Munich, Germany.

This activity was a contribution to the United Nations World Water Day 2016 on “Water & Jobs” and the session featured examples of capacity development activities aimed at furthering the skills of workers and employees within the water and sanitation sector.

In addition to the presentation of Water Operators’ Partnerships (WOPs) by GWOPA/UN-Habitat, there were presentations made by important training and educational institutions including DHI in Denmark and the water utility of Dresden (Stadtentwässerung Dresden) in Germany. The International Labor Organization (ILO) also presented the outcome of the World Water Day campaign for 2016 on Water and Jobs, which engaged up to 1.6 billion people.
