The 1st Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Cari-WOP platform took place on 8 and 9 October 2013 during the 22nd CWWA Annual Conference and Exhibition in Barbados. The members of the SC prepare a work plan of activities for 2014 which include the organization of thematic training activities leading to the establishment of WOPs. Priority areas of capacity development support for the region are Water Safety Plans, Adaptation to Climate Change and Disaster Preparedness and Risk Reduction. A specific country activity was proposed for Haiti recognizing the importance to address the on-going cholera epidemic.
A Cari-WOP/GWOPA Session was organized as part of the Water Utilities Forum during the 22nd CWWA Annual Conference and Exhibition. In this session, examples of WOPs implemented in the Caribbean region were presented and a matchmaking activity was organized with water utilities who expressed their interest in becoming mentors or mentees with other water utilities in the region or outside the region.
The Memorandum of Understanding for the second phase of the Water Operators’ Partnership between Belize Water Services (BWS) in Belize and Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) in the USA was signed and the activities are expected to start early 2014.
