Proposal submitted to the EU Water Facility successful

DUNEA, the Dune Water Company of The Hague and a member of GWOPA submitted a proposal to the ACP-EU Water Facility for its WOP with Mwanza Urban Water and Sewerage Authority of Tanzania (MWAUWASA).  The proposal was acccepted through very competitive application process.

The total cost of this 60 months project, 'Partnership for Financial and Operational Performance Improvement Program' is 1.4 million euros, of which 964 000 euros will be funded by the Facility.   The major areas of cooperation under this project will be programme management, training of staff, preparation of manuals, operational guidelines and hydraulic models, establishment of baseline data and improvement of data management.  Through these activities, it is expected that MWAUWASA will achieve NRW reduction (from 50% to 25%), improved revenue collection (billing ratio 97%), improved work performance and increase knowledge on methods of prevention and mitigation of eutrophication.

GWOPA/UNHABITAT has facilitated the first contact between the two operators after receiving a request from Mwanza for finding a mentor.  GWOPA will contribute to the monitoring and evaluation process of the project and support documentation and dissemination through the GWOPA website as an associate partner.    Other associated partners include Dutch and Tanzanian labor associations and the Kilimandjaro Film Institute.  Lake Victoria  Basin Water Office will also benefit from this project in terms of ISO certification of its laboratory.
