UN-Habitat was elected as World Water Council Governor 2012–2015

UN-Habitat got a seat at the Board of Governors of the World Water Council at its General Assembly with the largest number of votes in the category called College 1 (International Organizations) with Dr. Joan Clos, Executive Director of UN-Habitat as a board and Bert Diphoorn as an alternate. The tenure is 3 years, during which there will be the 7th World Water Forum in Daegu Gyeondbuk, Korea in 2015.
Dr. Clos delivered the speach at the session on the "Water Security Pact", which was well received by the members of the World Water Council. He stressed the issue of water and urbanization as urgent issues to be addressed by international water community in the framework of the post MDGs/SDGs.

“Designing and Implementing Successful Water Supply and Sanitation Utility Reform” available and open for registration

In emerging markets many water supply and sanitation utilities are locked in a vicious spiral of weak performance, insufficient funding, deterioration of assets, institutional discrepancies, and political interference. This is largely the consequence of poor governance, ineffective and misdirected policies, and the monopolistic nature of the sector.
The objective of this course is to provide government officials, senior managers of utilities, and technical staff with the knowledge, skills, and tools for initiating and sustaining reform. The program consists of lessons, case studies, and exercises supports stakeholders to reform their water utility.
Target Audience:
Mid-level managers and technical specialists who are responsible for change in their organization.
IMPORTANT:
All interested participants, please register for this course only if you are fully committed to completing it and have the necessary time to dedicate to the course. The workload is about 10 hours per week, which includes reading required materials, watching online lectures and presentations, contributing to discussion forums, taking quizzes, and completing assignments for each module.

As the clock ticks towards the opening of the sixth World Urban Forum in Naples, registration is ongoing and expectations are high that the turnout will be good. Organised jointly by UN-Habitat, the Government of Italy, the Campania Region and the City of Naples, the theme for this year's meeting is The Urban Future. Over 3,000 participants from 114 countries have already registered for the premier conference on cities and urban issues. The four focus areas for discussion are: Urban Planning: Institutions and Regulations, including the improvement of Quality of Life; Equity and Prosperity: Distribution of Wealth and Opportunities; Productive Cities: Competitive and Innovative Cities and Urban Mobility, Energy & Environment. |
